RNC RECAP: DAGA Statement on Trump Chaos & the Power of Democratic Attorneys General

August 28, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C.— To mark the end of the Republican National Convention’s week of chaos and Trump fueled lies, Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released a statement from Executive Director Sean Rankin on the powerful role Democratic Attorneys General play in protecting our democracy. The statement comes on the heels of California AG Xavier Becerra, DAGA Executive Committee member, filing the state’s 100th lawsuit against the Trump administration’s lawlessness.

Statement from Sean Rankin, Executive Director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association:

“While Trump and the Republican Party peddled misinformation and attempted to build the façade of a country not battling multiple crises this week at the RNC, Democratic Attorneys General continued to stay focused on what matters most: protecting the people. In fact, just today, as pundits and the political elite are making their cases for who is the best party for the American people, a coalition of 23 Democratic AGs are stepping up again. This time to challenge rollbacks in NEPA, a bedrock environmental protection for all of us.”

“Over the past four years, Democratic AGs have been—and will continue to be—the most effective leaders in blocking the Trump administration’s dangerous agenda. Without Democratic AGs, this country would look and feel even more lawless after four years of Trump. Together, Dem AGs defended DACA, blocked a discriminatory question from appearing on the 2020 Census, stopped Betsy DeVos—multiple times, halted rollbacks in climate protections, the list goes on and on.”

“And while Republicans may claim to be the party of ‘law and order,’ it’s been Democratic AGs upholding the Constitution and protecting the rule of law. Just look at their 80% success rate against the Trump administration in court.”

We are proud of the work of this committee for electing strong Democratic leaders. Democratic AGs are delivering for the people in their states—and for the country. In 2020, everyone must work together to elect Democrats up and down the ticket—especially Democratic AGs.”
