Trump Endorses Michigan’s “Big Lie” Down Ballot Candidates

November 29, 2021

Trump Endorsements include AG, State House Candidates Who Support the “Big Lie”

Washington, DC — NBC News reported that former President Donald Trump has been endorsing candidates in Michigan up and down the ballot ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. On the list is Matthew DePerno, GOP candidate for Michigan Attorney General, who supports Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election and attended a rally earlier this year where he further pushed dangerous lies that have contributed to the months-long disinformation campaign that continues to threaten our democracy.

Trump’s requirement for his endorsement of these candidates could not be clearer. As NBC News puts it, “All of the candidates have one thing in common: They’ve made election administration and investigating last year’s vote central to their platforms.” They go on to say, “Trump has made it clear that denying the results of the 2020 presidential election is central to his support, if not his agenda.”

The support in such deep down ballot races is uncommon from a former president, but it comes as no surprise given Trump’s Big Lie from 2020, and what’s yet to come in 2024. “Trump’s focus on the state illuminates just how driven he is to exact revenge on those who haven’t supported his baseless claim that the last election was stolen from him. It’s also a play to install allies who could be helpful should he run for president again in 2024 and find himself locked in another close race,” NBC News shares.

We don’t know what 2024 will bring, but what we do know is that it will be critical to elect leaders in office, like Michigan Attorney General Nessel, who are focused on upholding the rule of law and protecting their constituents, rather than pushing the “Big Lie.”

Our democracy can't wait.
