Intro
Chris Mann is running to be the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Kansas.
Early Life and Education
Mann received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and became a police officer his junior year in college. As an officer, Mann saw the tragedy of drunk driving firsthand while responding to accidents and arresting DUI offenders. During a routine traffic stop, Mann was struck by a drunk driver. The experience forever changed his life. As a result of his injuries, the crash ended his career in uniform. After enduring years of intense physical therapy, Mann realized he could continue to fight crime as an attorney in the courtroom. He received the Koch Public Service Scholarship and attended law school at Washburn University Law School.
Career Highlights
Mann went on to become a prosecutor in the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office. He played a key role in the advocacy and passage of significant drunk driving legislation in Kansas, which included requiring ignition interlocks for all DUI offenders.
In 2016, he opened Mann Law Firm, P.A., and began providing legal representation for clients who could not afford an attorney of their own. In 2019, Mann expanded his law practice and returned his focus primarily to representing victims of drunk driving and their families in lawsuits against drunk drivers.
Attorney General Priorities
As attorney general, Mann plans to prioritize public safety, not political agendas. According to him, “the Attorney General’s office shouldn’t be about Team Red or Team Blue — it should be about Team Kansas.”
Mann will defend the constitutional rights of all Kansans, protect consumers from fraud and hold bad actors accountable, and ensure local law enforcement and prosecutors once again receive the support and resources they need from the Attorney General’s office.
Personal Life
Mann’s wife, Ashley, is a Cardiothoracic surgeon in Topeka. They live in Lawrence with their two kids.
