DAGA Statement on MAGA Trump Ally & Virginia AG Jason Miyares Announcing Re-Election Run
November 18, 2024
Washington, DC – The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement on far-right Trump ally and GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares announcing his re-election bid in Virginia.
Statement from Sean Rankin, DAGA President:
“Jason Miyares is failing to keep Virginians safe as AG. He’s put politics over people time and again, and there is no doubt that he will focus only on ingratiating himself to President Trump if he is re-elected as Attorney General. Virginians deserve better than Miyares, and we will take back the seat next year.”
Here’s a reminder of what Miyares has done as AG:
- Miyares accepted $2.6 million from January 6th funder and fomenter the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA);
- He fired the top staff investigator of the January 6th insurrection – a move then celebrated by Trump;
- Miyares was endorsed by right-winged Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in his first campaign for AG, and he celebrated an endorsement by former Virginia Sen. George Allen, who infamously used a racial slur when addressing a campaign tracker;
- He brought baseless corruption charges against an election worker – following in Trump’s footsteps – to further his own political agenda;
- He lied about a plea deal he gave to a pedophile who solicited a minor for sex;
- Instead of addressing the issue of gun violence after a six-year-old student shot his teacher, Miyares went on Fox News to discuss “culture wars” instead of public safety.
